“Write hard and clear about what hurts.”
-Ernest Hemingway

I met you

The one who compliments me

Like a sweater and a beanie in the winter

Like a cold shower in the scorching summer

Like a warm hug in a cold season

Or like a helping hand

When all goes wrong

You’re like a sunset

Like a gentle breeze

No

Like a tree’s leaves

Swaying left to right

Just for me

When I needed an answer

You’ve delivered

A kind of love

Like a soft grab to a hand

A kiss on the cheek

Telling me it’s okay

You are that and all the more

The red in the sky in a summer day

The firm foundation in a skyscraper

You never sway

Not in my eyes

The sweetest soul I’ve ever met

If you were a rose in a field full of them

I’d know which one you’d be

And I’d pick it

Without hesitation

I’d tell you

You are worth more

Than

All that you and I have endured

How can I tell you

How I feel

When there are millions of souls

Thousands of paths

Hundreds of words

But only one of you?

How can I explain to my old self

To the me now

To the future me

That you have fit me

More perfectly than

A puzzle piece?

We cannot

Because its so easy it’s scary

But isn’t that how the universe is?

So complex yet so simple?

So dense and so well placed.

That is you and I

Delicately placed

Intricately drawn

And so I wish tonight

I met you sooner

But tomorrow

I’ll always be grateful

That I met the you

That nobody but me has seen
